CARLTON WARE POTTERY

Basic Information

The firm was founded in 1890 by Wiltshaw and two Robinson brothers. Carlton Ware produced a great range of pottery over the years from very ordinary tablewares to fine quality stylish art pottery.

Since 1967 there have been a number of owners :

1967 Arthur Wood and Son

1987 County Potteries

1989 Grosvenor ceramics

1992-1997 No production

1997 Francis Joseph. Production continues today under the ownership of Francis J. Salmon

Flaring octagonal vase in an earlier richly enamelled and gilded version of the BIRD OF PARADISE AND TREE design, c. late 20s, no pattern number, about 10" (from memory). Not really Art Deco. Compare the later version below, design 3144. Appleton Antiques,sold from stock.

Ginger jar and cover 7" high (ginger jars are attractive and desirable items) in the fantasy design Devil`s Copse. This is a particularly attractive design in painted enamels.There is a very rare variant of the design in which a red devil is featured. Private collection
